Friday PM: Knitting and Crocheting with Found Materials with Norah Gaughan

Repurpose those clothes, textiles and plastic supermarket bags you have piling up because you knew you’d have a use for them someday. Make the yarn from plastic bags, T-shirts, old sheets or yard goods. After you make the yarn begin a project. Either knit or crochet a cowl or a market bag on large hooks and needles.

Skill Level: Beginner. Knitters should know how to knit and purl. Crocheters should know the basics of chain, single, and double crochet.

Materials Required:

  • 10 plastic grocery bags
  • 2 or 3 old adult size T-shirts
  • 1 old sheet or pillow case
  • size US 13 and 15 knitting needles and/or size M, N, or P crochet hooks
  • sharp scissors
  • fine point permanent marker
  • long ruler (at least 12″) or yardstick
  • Optional: sewing needle and thread
